New conflict of interest requirements

Significant amendments to the U.S. Public Health Service Financial Conflict of Interest Regulation will go into effect Aug. 24. The new PHS rules include lower thresholds for significant financial interests, new requirements to report travel reimbursements and new training requirements. Researchers who currently receive funding from, plan to apply for funding from, or have salary funded by a grant from any PHS agency must comply with the new FCOI Regulation. Researchers must complete a new Annual Conflict of Interest and Commitment Disclosure in a timely manner after Jan. 9.

English 99S (pronunciation) class for LAS faculty, scholars & staff (and international students)

If you are a non-native speaker of English, you may be interested in taking English 99S, an English pronunciation class funded by the LAS college and therefore free to you (except the textbook). (ISU graduate and undergraduate students are also welcome, but will have to pay a $468 course fee, since like other 99 classes, English 99S is not covered by normal tuition.) 99S is an advanced English pronunciation and speaking course designed to dramatically improve students’ ability to:

New feature - department Facebook page

The Department of Economics now has its own Facebook page, which you'll find located on the alumni section of our website. We'll include regular news and features that are already on our homepage, as a way to build more outreach to our department alumni.

New role for Karleen Gillen of CARD

Karleen Gillen, a secretary with CARD since 1985, left the Department of Economics on November 18 and is now working at Vet Med. The Department wishes her well in her new venture!

Economics holiday party

A reminder that the Department of Economics holiday party will be held on Wednesday, December 7, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM in 368A Heady Hall. Join your friends and coworkers for food and fellowship!

Student IT Technician Tan Nguyen

Student IT Technician Tan Nguyen (pictured right) has been working in the Department of Economics since summer 2011. He is available for software installation, general computer troubleshooting, and for relating more complicated technical issues to other IT personnel.

December holiday hour reminder

New telephone books available

Pick up a copy of the 2011-2012 Yellowbook telephone directory for Ames/Boone/Nevada area.

You can pick up your copy of directory (1 per office) in 260 Heady Hall. Please recycle your old directory by placing it in one of the recycling boxes located on each floor near the blue recycling bin.

After the initial printing of the directories an error was noted in the ISU section and there is a white corrected pamphlet to go with your directory.

New baby girl for grad student Jingbo Cui!

Congratulations to Jingbo Cui and his wife Shu Zeng on the birth of their daughter Iris Cui (pictured left)! Iris was born on November 15 at 2:47 PM, weighing 7 lbs. 14 oz. and 20 inches in length.
