It's a Girl!

Congratulations to David and Hongli Feng Hennessy on the birth of their new daughter.  Deirbhile Feng Hennessy was born on Wednesday, December 22.  She weighed 8 lbs., 7 oz. and was 20.5 in. long.

University Offices Closed January 17

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, university offices will be closed and classes recessed Monday, January 17.

CVC Receives 2010 Iowa Venture Distinguished Leadership Award

ISU Economics Professor Mark Edelman accepted the 2010 Iowa Venture Distinguished Leadership Award for creation of the Iowa MicroLoan program and other entrepreneurial initiatives on behalf or the Community Vitality Center and ISU Extension on December 2, 2010. The Award was presented by Lieutenant Governor-elect Kim Reynolds on behalf of the Iowa Area Development Group at the 25th Annual Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with the Iowa Rural Electric Cooperatives 75th Annual Meetings at the West Des Moines Sheraton Inn.

Department of Economics Holiday Hours

The Department of Economics will observe the following Holiday/Winter Break schedule:

December 20-22, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

December 23-24, Closed

December 27-30, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm (limited staff)

December 31, Closed

January 3-7, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Thanksgiving Break

Classes are recessed November 22-26 for Thanksgiving break. The main office (260-266 Heady) will be open 7:30 am-4:00 pm November 22-24. All university offices will be closed November 25-26.

2010 AAEA, CAES, & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting Highlights

  •  David A. Hennessy was named a Fellow of the AAEA
  • John Lawrence won the Distinguished Extension Program awards (individual, more than ten years' experience)
  • Greg Colson won the honorable mention for the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation award (advisor: Wally Huffman)
  • The ISU Ag Business Club won both the Outstanding Chapter Award and the Creative Club Award (advisors: William Edwards and Ron Deiter)

It's a Girl

Congratulations to Insoo and Yongouk Cho on the birth of their new daughter.  Claire was born on Friday, July 30, 2010 weighing 6 lbs., 6 oz, and 19 inches.

Ph.D. Dissertation Award from AAEA

Greg Colson (PHD 2009) was one of four individuals to receive the Ph.D.
Dissertation Award from the AAEA at the recent AAEA meetings in Denver.
This was for his 2009 dissertation entitled, "Improving Nutrient Content
Through Genetic Modification: Evidence from Experimental Auctions on
Consumer Acceptance and Willingness to Pay for Intragenic Foods."
Wallace Huffman was his major professor.

It's A Boy!

Congratulations to Ann and Joe Johanns on the birth of a new son.  Lucas James Johanns was born on Saturday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m. weighing 8 lbs., 12 oz. and 21 inches.
