Building closed for July 4th holiday

Please remember that the building will be closed for the 4th of July holiday this coming Monday. The building and offices will re-open Tuesday, July 5th.

CORRECTION - Increased Mileage Reimbursement Rate - Effective July 1, 2011

Increased mileage rate effective July 1, 2011: For travel expenses incurred on or after July 1, 2011, the default rate of $.255/mile will be increased to $.2775/mile. The default mileage reimbursement rate is calculated at 50% of the full IRS rate and is applicable for trips of more than 100 miles if the traveler chooses to use a personal vehicle when a vehicle is available from Transportation Services. The full IRS rate is increasing from $.51/mile to $.555/mile.

Congratulations! - New baby girl for Ruiqing Miao

Congratulations to Ruiqing Miao & Jian Rong on the birth of their daughter Yanhao Miao! Yanhao was born Monday, June 13th at 7:05 AM. She is 8 pounds and 20" long.

New student employee Tan Nguyen joins Economics Support Group

Tan Nguyen has joined the Economics Computer Support Group as a new student employee.  Tan was first hired as a student lab monitor in the March of 2011 before being promoted to general departmental IT work.

Associate Professor James Bushnell exits to University of California, Davis

Associate Professor James Bushnell has resigned from the department as of June 30th. Since his arrival at ISU in 2009, Bushnell served as the Cargill Chair in Energy Economics and the director of the Bio-based Industry Center. He has accepted a position at the University of California, Davis.

As you clean out your offices, please observe ISU's debris policy. We do have a cart located in 260 Heady, if you need to check out to help you haul things to dumpster.

Below are guidelines to facilitate procedures in handling disposal of debris at Iowa State University.

Recycling update: white paper

White paper is recycled in the blue recycle bins that are located on each floor by the elevators. Please note the following acceptable and unacceptable items.

Acceptable white paper (To test paper, tear and if inside is white, OK to recycle in blue bins):

  • Computer paper
  • Printer/copier/fax paper
  • White tablet paper
  • Color printed material
  • Card stock
  • White envelopes (no plastic window or labels)
  • Staples OK - do not have to remove

Unacceptable paper:

Newpaper recycling available in Heady Hall

Newspapers are one of the many materials recycled on campus. Bins are conveniently located in many areas, including the first-floor entryway of Heady Hall, near the Daily distribution box.

Iowa State Fair exhibit volunteers needed

From August 11-21, Iowa State volunteers are needed to help roll and hand out more than 30,000 football posters to Iowa State fans and help apply over 35,000 temporary Iowa State tattoos to visitors of the Iowa State Fair. There are two shifts per day, 8:45 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. where two volunteers roll and hand out posters and two volunteers apply tattoos each shift. Iowa State volunteers receive free fair admission, free parking in the fair’s big north lots, a complimentary bottle of water and a free special Iowa State t-shirt designed specifically for volunteers.
